Char| Category: Essential Tools, Web Tools | 14 Comments

Whether you need to send a high resolution photo to a client or a flashy new video your co-worker, your average email service is just not going to be able to handle it. Most email services allow you to transfer 10MB at any given time and you don’t always know that your recipient even has that much available - all you know is that you have to get the files to them. Unless you both are very comfortable with FTP, you are going to have to find a better way to get the files from Inbox A to Inbox B in a timely manner.

There are plenty of applications available to help you move those big files - ranging from the free and easy to the expensive and decked out with extras. Here are the highlights on 13 services you can use to move big files: (more…)

Monday Motivation - Call an Audible

Char| Category: Monday Motivation | 4 Comments

As business owners, we make plans, set goals and priorities, and then work with all our heart on to achieve them, but sometimes when you least expect it, you have to reassess. This past week I have spent a lot of time thinking about the different areas of my business, what I want to grow, what I want to cut back, and what is just taking up resources - basically, I had to call an audible and change some of my plans as I am at the intersection of obligation and opportunity in more ways than one.

As a result, I am going to be adding a bit more of a personal touch to this site. I will be sharing my weekly goals, challenges and other issues relevant to my business. Things won’t really change all that much, but I will be dealing with a few more topics.

Monday Motivation is a series that Wendy at eMoms at Home and I (at my personal site Casual Keystrokes ) have been doing for the past year. By putting our weekly goals in writing and holding ourselves accountable, we have found it easier to stay on track and move towards our bigger goals. (more…)

New Reasons to go to SOBCon

Char| Category: Blogging | 4 Comments

As if my 10 Reasons to go to SOBCon08 were not enough, the growing list of sponsors and speakers should convince you that if you are at all serious about business on the Internet - you need to be at SOBCon08.

First you need to see this video interview that Liz did with Jason Falls (who is a fabulous interviewer, by the way!):

Still not convinced? When you register, you will also receive:

  • a copy of ProBlogger: Secrets for Blogging Your Way to a Six-Figure Income by Darren Rowse and Chris Garrett
  • 60 attendees will get free design and SEO consults from Network Solutions experts.
  • a $99 lifetime hosting offer from THC
  • a pro account at E-Junkie
  • a free subscription to Blogger & Podcaster Magazine and a chance to join their new USA Today guide
  • a professional video interview on you and your biz for BlogTV sponsored by Fuel My Blog

That is some serious value added schwag! And something tells me that’s not all there will be. I am pretty sure Liz and crew are still lining up some extras for their Biz School for Bloggers.

From the latest press release:

“This year, we’re calling it, Biz School for Bloggers, but it’s about all forms of Internet business and social media. The totally interactive format is focused on building an actionable plan that combines the solid thinking and models of business with the social culture and nuances of the Internet,” says Liz Strauss, the content creator. “Speakers present the most-successful “how-to” model in their field of Internet expertise. Then participants, working in 6-person mastermind teams, collaborate and apply that part of the model to their business. At the end of the day, each attendee has given their business a 360 degree.”

To me, if you are blogging for business or blogging as a business, you can not afford to miss this opportunity to interact, network, and learn from more than 200 of the most deeply networked, conversational business bloggers on the Internet.
