I tried using Indesign at a company I used to work inhouse for. Personally i hated it. I just don't like the way it handles images, I much prefer Quarks Picture boxes, but then thats probably because I am so used to using quark.

I bought CS2 about 6 months ago and have been having a lot of problems with crashing in Photoshop and and just debating whether the upgarde will help make things better or worse. One thing I can defnately say abut Adobe is that you definately get more for your money than Quark - it cost me about the same for Creative Suite Premium as just Quark. I would also be keen to hear from anyone who has tried CS3

David - I just realized that I do own InDesign and I think I have played with it a bit, but I really don't do much print work anymore (by choice) so I haven't used it to its capacity at all.

I am looking forward to my favorite web products (Fireworks, Photoshop, Illustrator and Dreamweaver) being able to play so well together and having them all on one platform. I am split between using Fireworks and Dreamweaver on my PC and Photoshop and Illustrator on my iMac.

It's used for newspaper, magazine, book layout, amongst other things print-related.

As for replacing Pagemaker, I'd definitely say you're on the money there. I haven't used Pagemaker in about a decade.

The main two applications for page layout are QuarkXPress and InDesign, with InDesign having nicer features in my opinion (although I haven't used the latest version of Quark).

It's really helping InDesign that Adobe has almost created itself a monopoly. File transfer between applications such as Illustrator > Photoshop > InDesign is a plus.

David - there are about 6 different configurations you can purchase - I know one has InDesign. That is the one product I have not yet used. Is it for web design or print or both? Is it the replacement to the old PageMaker application (which I have on my PC)?

Interesting.

What's missing off that web premium version is InDesign, which I use a lot.

Nice how they package the web tools acquired in there too. This'll be a very popular release. No doubt.
