Essential Links for 5-15-08
Posted by: | CommentsI have been doing so much blog design and customization lately, my head is beginning to spin. One of these days soon, I will share some links to my recent work. But in the meantime, how about I share links to some essential reads for the week?
- Deb at Freelance Writing Jobs asked if I would give her a guest post this month. Since her site is about writing and mine is about design, I wrote about a few of the differences in for writing for the web vs. writing for print.
- Even if you are not a non-profit, 47Media’s Non-Profit’s Guide to Websites is an excellent article.
- Dawud Miracle wants to know if Email Marketing is Dead? What’s your take?
- I like ChrisG’s post on Building Your Online Brand with Social Media Tools.
- By way of Laughing Lion Design, I found the link to 100 Photoshop Tutorials at 3D Total. Definitely bookmark-worthy.
- Pearsonified is back with a great post on How You Can Use WordPress Functions to Run a Smarter Blog. Note to self – read and re-read.
- Are you interested in buying domain names? Personally I have quite the collection and would have loved to have had this guidance earlier on. Digital Inspiration has some very sound advice on buying domains.
- Just for fun! Do you love fonts? Are you good at identifying them? Take this quick quiz from I Love Typography and see how font savvy you are.
- And while we are at it – 15 Signs You May Be a Geek. Wendy at Sparkplugging shared this link to the geek quiz and I am proud to say that we are both very geeky – a cool 13 out of 15 geek points.
6 Posts Too Good to Miss
Posted by: | CommentsCan you tell I am busy these days? I have not even had a chance to write between being without my normal high speed internet (6 days total) and the amount of client work (good) I have going right now. Anyhow, there is some good stuff out there and I don’t want you to miss out on it!

At Most Inspired, they ask the million dollar question so many of us who do freelance design ask – Web Design Pricing – Set Prices or Quotes?

Google’s new personalized search may change the way we think about our rankings according to Search Engine Journal’s latest post Are You #1 in Google? It Doesn’t Matter.

And how can a color lover NOT LOVE this one! How about the RGB codes for ALL 120 Crayon Colors? Ah, coloring box heaven…
And a final note of wisdom. If you haven’t upgraded to WordPress 2.5 yet – get it done. And be vigilant about your site security. Two of my sites were hacked and while the ramifications in the big scheme of things were not horrible, recovering from it has been a time suck and makes you feel pretty lousy in the process!
From eMom to Sparkplugging
Posted by: | CommentsWhen I first asked Wendy Piersall if I could use one of her articles as a resource for one of my now semi-defunct sites, I had no idea what an amazing friend I was about to make. Over the past 18 months I have had the pleasure of being a part of Wendy’s rapidly growing community at eMoms at Home. Well, in case you haven’t heard, Wendy has relaunched her brand into something much bigger and very exciting! Introducing Sparkplugging!

Sparkplugging is for people who want to make things happen – in their business, in their lives and in the world around them. Wendy’s site has grown from being a hobby site about a Mom sharing what she knows about working from home and making money on the internet to being a multi-author resource destination! She has gathered some of the most passionate bloggers out there to share their knowledge and views on topics such as:
So, what are you waiting for? Go visit Wendy and her team at their new digs! And give them some Stumble or Link Love while you are at it.
