Headline Makeover Compliments of CopyBlogger

By Char

Last week or so I was visiting the CopyBlogger site and was reading the post on improving your headlines. It’s author had made an offer to review some of the headlines and suggest improvements. I figured this was too good an offer to pass up, so I left a comment.  Much to my surprise, this morning I read his latest post and my headline was one chosen to be re-written. Thank you Mr. Copyblogger!

Here is what Mr. Copyblogger had to say:

The 20 Most Important Words on Any Web Page

Original headline: You’ve Only Got 30 Seconds or 20 Words…

  • I like the original headline—it’s constructed well and the use of the ellipse heightens the curiosity factor.
  • My approach applies a bit more specificity, which tends to increase the drawing power.
  • It also provides more information about the general topic of the post, which helps with non-regular readers and offsite avenues such as Digg and Delicious.
